Massage Philosophy

My focus is on you and your particular needs.  To help alleviate your discomfort or pain, your massage session will be individually tailored using a variety of techniques from traditional Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Myofascial Therapy, and Neuromuscular Therapy among others.

Business Approach

Only a few clients each day, unlike the volume approach of other massage businesses.  I believe that if you pay for an hour session then you should receive no less than 60 minutes of hands-on work. Adequate time is scheduled for each client so there is no rush or pressure to cut the session short.  Fees are the same no matter if you need specific/deep tissue work, general relaxation or some combination of the two.  This office also has the advantage of collaboration between physical therapist and massage therapist for improved outcomes.

Massage Decreases Chronic Pain

  • Massage therapy can assist in correcting the conditions that cause chronic pain for example posture related pain that is a result of muscle length imbalances.  To correct this condition proper use of massage therapy techniques allow the muscles to return to normal lengths decreasing chronic strain on overused muscles.
  • Additionally, the physical application of massage can significantly impact the level of pain felt by the patient/client.  One way this is accomplished is through the use of the gate control theory of pain control.  The touch of a properly trained massage therapist will activate nerve receptors that travel along large myelinated nerve fibers temporarily blocking pain signals from reaching the brain.  This is the same theory employed by TENS units. The second is by the stimulated release of endorphins (the body's natural painkiller) into the brain and nervous system to reduce your feeling of pain/discomfort without the use of medication.
Massage Relaxes Tense Muscles
  • Skeletal muscle is a very dynamic organ of the body. Muscles have the ability to shorten and lengthen as determined by the way they are primarily used.  If the muscle is chronically stretched the muscle will lengthen and if the muscle is chronically shortened the muscle will physically shorten.
  • Massage therapy can be used alone or with physical therapy to stretch tight muscles and connective tissue, breaking down and preventing further formation of adhesions, freeing patient/client range of motion.
