Paul E. Colosky Jr., MPT, MS, ATC, CSCS has recently completed all the continuing education requirements to become certified in Kinesio Taping.
Kinesio Tape is an elastic form of tape, invented Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1973. By mimicking the qualities of human skin, Kinesio Tape can provide proven, comfortable treatment during any stage of injury.
Kinesio Tape has been in use in the U.S. since 1995, and had a tremendous amount of support from the Olympians in the 2009 Summer Olympics.
How does Kinesio Tape work? - Through its application process,
Kinesio Tape can affect the sensors of the skin. Through manipulation of these sensors, the KT Method can change the healing processes of the body. All layers of the human body are interconnected, this means that by applying KT on the surface of the skin, it is possible to affect change in much deeper tissue groups.
What are the different application types? -
What type of problems can be treated with Kinesio Tape? - Although a relatively simple product, Kinesio Tape can be used to
treat a virtually limitless number of ailments and injuries. Such conditions include, but are not limited to neck, back and shoulder pain, arm pain (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, golfer's elbow), headache to include migraines and tension-type headaches, jaw pain, scoliosis, buttock pain, leg pain (sciatica, hamstrings strains, calf tightness/spasms) patella tendonitis, shin splints. The treatment of muscles has the greatest effect on reducing pain mechanisms in the nervous system.
Proper Kinesio Tape application in the clinic should result in 60% to 100% resolution of symptoms.
